Advanced Search customization

Hi,
I am trying to customize the advanced search. i m struggling to get the templating fields to be indexed. i have one filed 'MyField' in DCR, on which i want to get the search done. so first i put the entry in 'Fieldmapping.xml' and then i removed the indexing on that branch and then added that branch for indexing, to get indexing on that field.
then i put the entry in Search_custom.xml as follows.

template-types id="iw.search.template_types"
template-type id="English/MyDataType" resourceBundle="example.strings"
template-field id="MyField"
template-type
template-types

and finally ran the make_toolkit.ipl.
but the when i choose that 'MyDataType' form in drop down in advanced serach, i m not getting that 'Myfield' under attributes drop down. other changes like max-num-fields are taking places.
i m not getting,y its not working.
anybody worked on this, help is most appreciated.

Env: teamsite 6.5 sp2 on windows server 2003

strange..no one..
i m sure many frnds had worked on this before..

but now .. i have a weird problem.
i m able to do search on one DCT field.
but again, its not doing the same for another fields for same DCT.
even its not working for the same field which was working in first DCT in another DCT.

i have no clue.. where to go..
also.. which log file should i check it..
