Mediabin hot folders configurations
Joseph_goh
I have installed the hot folders editor in the mediabin server.
There are many root and sub-folders categorised in the mediabin and I need to configure the hot folder for my users to be able to upload multiple files into the mediabin. Different users will have their write access to their own folders.
In the hot folder configuration, it requires to input the source and destination folders.
How can I configure the hot folder for my users to do the above in an easy way?
Thanks,
Joseph goh

We use HotFolders in two ways
1. We have HotFolder Editor installed on a server and we have specific " files shares" which are monitored by the HotFolder service. We've granted users access to those shares, therefore when someone drops a file into share, it is ingested to mbin.
2. We allow users to install the HotFolder Editor on their own machine and we allow them to configure the tool how they see fit.
Hope this helps, good luck!

Do you run into problems giving your users that much control? Each user needs to maintain the mappings now instead of having them centrally defined on the server. I suppose this saves you from having to open up network shares, but I would think it would be tedious to replicate a folder structure locally that you could map back to.
How many mappings do your users have on average?

No, we don't run into too many issues with our "power" users because they are pretty technical and understand the concept. Yes, if we had to create separate shares for everyone it would be a nightmare.
We don't map back to the users at all. We simply use HotFolders as a way of ingesting content into our system and nothing more. I really don't care how they have it configured on their own personal machines.
I'm not 100% sure how many mappings people have. I would assume maybe 10 or so. I'm just guessing.

Hi,
Thank you for your advice.
I have managed to setup the hot folders but the function "delete source files after processing" is not working - any idea what is the cause?
Since the hot folder editor is setup in the mediabin server and all the shared folders are mapped to the mediabin folders accordingly, is there any scripts to prevent the new folder created by the user to be deleted when the user created it in the shared folder?
I am asking that is because my users sometimes create a new folder in mediabin.
It would be good if the "Asset from file" function is able to insert multiple files.
Is there any updates on that?
Thank you

I'm not sure why the delete is not happening. Are you using a service account to run the hotfolders? Does the account have all the necessary permissions to delete?
Just an idea.
