How to restrict Work Flow to run on specific time only

Hi,

I have a requirement, I need to make sure that the workflow
should run only in a specific time interval, Say between 10 Pm and 4 AM (PST).

How can we achieve this?

My suggestion to put an CGI task as your start task which has 2 successors; one would be the actual task and other would be end task. WithinCGI task check for the time, if it is within the duration you specified... transit the task to actual task else display a descriptive message and provide a button to end the workflow.

Clarification please. The workflow should only start between those hours? or the workflow should only run between those hours (regardless of when it was started)?

The first could easily be handled in the WFT using a (potentially hidden or read-only) field in the TAG_info() section which could be set to the current time and validated against the desired hours.

The latter is much more dependent upon what the workflow does and how many user-interactive tasks it contains - suppose the workflow started at 10pm, with a usertask, followed by an externaltask (which takes bit of time to complete) followed by another usertask - which happened to get activated after everyone had gone home for the eventing. Someone comes in around 08:00 in the morning and there's a usertask waiting for them - there's nothing to stop them from working on it when they get there - but then a subsequent externaltask gets kicked off and checks the time of day and decides that it will sleep until 10pm comes again before actually doing what it's supposed to do?

It can get more complex when looking at other task types.

So - we need a clarification on whether this is a start-time limitation or a run-time limitation and clarification on what this workflow does, in how many task steps.

Do you want to run all the workflow tasks (usertask, grouptask, cgitask, externaltask) in the specific time or just the workflow instantiation. If its the formal then you need to redesign the workflow and the scripts so that it runs in the specific time.

If its a external task then you can incorporate sleep in the script to accomplish it.

If its a cgitask then you might want a dummytask prior to the cgitask that expires and only activates the task during the specific time.
