New hardware and mbin is slow(er)...

Help help. We moved to new servers last night/this morning and the performance is slow. I search on the kb and read every article about configuring mbin performance and we are doing everything that I could find per the support kb.

One problem I have is that the MBCache share is not being utilized. I setup the share, the share has read/write permissions on Everyone, the share has 30gb free, I tried setting the value to 30000 and also -1 (no limit), the path is accessible, but, nothing ever gets written to the share. It's always empty.

Ideas? What can I do to increase my performance?

Are you experiencing this from the web client or the windows client or the mac client?

Is it because the mbcache is not populating? How does the mbcache get populated? Is it when someone searches and previews an image?

What kind of servers do you have and what is your tier architecture?

Did you do your load tests etc., on the new hardware before going live?

Did you do an upgrade or any other change along the way?

No, we didn't do a load test because these machines are so much better than our last servers.

No, the last server was upgraded to 4.5.3 several months ago and we didn't want to upgrade software and hardware to minimize complications.

Page 76 of asset server admin guide gives you the relevant information.

Do you see performance issues while browsing also? And does this happen to all users?

Wrt MB the only thing that I can think of is query time to DB. Are you using SQL Server 2005?

I read page 76 and we have configured everything per the doco.

Yes the slowness is across browsing and searching especially. I tried rebuilding the indexes on the server and that did not help.

Yes, SQL2K5 SP2 on W2k3Ent.

But did you use the patch for SQL2K5 when you did your installation? Did you upgrade the DB from 2k to 2k5 in this process?

I am asking you all non-MB questions because I have worked on many server move projects and I havent really seen much issues unless there was a non-MB factor.

Can you post the steps that you used to move over to the new hardware?

Try setting up net.log in the old and new systems. This will allow us to compare server response times on a case by case basis. IN particular, it can rule in or out the model cache as a factor, since caching simply eliminates server round-trips, it does not affect their timing when they are necessary.
