Mediabin hot folders items can't be deleted
Joseph_goh
Hi,
I have managed to setup the hot folders but the function "delete source files after processing" is not working - any idea what is the cause?

Dear Salman,
I am not quite sure whether Interwoven can pick up the files from a folder along with the metadata.
I have just managed to setup the hotfolder but have not fully used it.

Yes, we use HotFolders to drop images in a folder. The images are put into the MediaBin server at a designted location, we run a task on them, which also includes all the metadata.
For your original question, I have come across your thread before and I am not sure about the answer. I always wonder if the account that you HotFolder tool is running as (service account?) has the permissions to that folder?
Is the path a network path maybe and if so, should you be using a FQN and/or UNC?

Joseph,
Check the HotFolder log files located in MBTempDir\HotFolders to see if there are error message when trying to delete the source file...i.e. such as if the files are marked as read-only.

Salman,
What type of metadata are you wanting the hotfolder to pick up?
Any metadata that is already embedded within the file should be picked up and parsed out by the MediaBin server during insertion. Also, you can choose the type of task to use during insertion which you could then add custom metadata to the incoming asset.

Mark,
Basically I have 2 files,
1. Image file( could be .tiff/.jpeg)
2. Metadata file
The metadata file can be written as requried by interwoven, now my program will copy both of these files into the folder at times, and I want interwoven to pick them up. collect the metadata it wants from the metadata file and store the image according to the information specified in the metadata file.
Is that all possible ??
Thanks so much for your reply.

Salman,
Unfortunately, no, the workflow that you are looking for is not something that is supported thru HotFolders. However, you (or CSO) could develop a custom app to accomplish this....something along the lines of using HotFolders to ingest your image file and then your custom app would respond to container events (specifically, new assets being added) at which point you could then apply the metadata through a revision.
Another possibility (although a bit more involved) is to compose a single MediaBin XML file that contains both the image data and the metadata. Then HotFolders could be used to ingest this XML file that will result in both the image and metadata being added in one step. The MediaBin XML files are a means to move assets (files and metadata) between different MediaBin servers...basically, exporting and importing. So, your application would effectively be creating an MediaBin exported file by hand and HotFolders would be used to do the import.

There is also an "XML Metadata Adder" primitive that takes XML data as a parameter. It may be posisble to use XML transformations to massage your metadata into the form expected by this primitive and then run it to add the metadata to the asset. This sort of script would probably be easier than reproducing a standalone XML file for the image.
To reiterate, this is not out of the box functionality as hot folders cannot handle multiple files simultaneously, but I am sure CSO would be happy to assist.
Cheers,
Lyman Hurd
