iwfreeze or stop services to copy iw-store?

Hello,

i am installing a fresh TS 6.5 on a machine, and i need to migrate the content store from another server with TS 5.5.2. and from IWmigrate.exe it says, stop Teamsite, and copy the iw-store to the new server then run iwmigrate. but to copy iw-store, it will take couple days and some paperwork... but since we backup the content store everyweek, i thought about using a copy of the backup...
but when we backup, we only freeze teamsite we dont stop it...
so do you think, the backup copy will work the same as a copy that will be taken with stoping teamsite?

or i still have to stop teamsite to take a copy of the contentstore?

Well , if you are running "iwfreeze" it iwll take care of freezing the Teamsite, before taking the copy, if you don't want it then you can stop the teamsite service and take a backup.

But as you said you already have the backup taken before, if you think there are no significant changes from your last backup then ypu can you the same back up for you migration, hope this helps.

I just wanted to check if there is any difference between a copy that was taken freezing teamsite, and a copy that was taken with teamsite stopped. but i think you confirmed that they are both the same.

According to IWOV the only difference between *freeze* backup copy and *stop* copy is
the presence/absence of TSRunning(0KB) file that is located under the iw-store directory.

Since migration target store should be inactive I *guess* that iwmigrate ignores this file anyway.

if you have a backup of the store taken after running iwfreeze, that should be no different than the store when the server is stopped - except for the TSRunning file as indicated in the previous post.

You should be able to run iwmigrate on the backup copy. Of course, remember that any changes since that backup will have to be moved over as well unless you don't care about those changes..
