i am compiling a .wft file from command line in windows 2003 by use of iwwft_compile.ipl. and i am getting a error msg as follows:

C:\Program Files\Interwoven\TeamSite\bin>iwwft_compile.ipl -i < c:\test.xml
ERROR: miscellaneous error occurred
Error parsing input XML: XML parse error :
no element found at line 1, column 0, byte -1 at C:\PROGRA~1\INTERW~1\TeamSite\iw-perl\vendor\lib/XML/Parser.pm line 187

can anyone tell me the solution for removing that miscellaneous error. plz help

Please post the actual c:\test.xml file (as an attachment) - my guess is that it's malformed, but unless we see the actual file we cannot verify it.

1. Your test.xml is welformed. Check if "Philips/theme_workflow.wft" is welformed also. Make sure that you can run this Workflow from
GUI ( action->New Job, submit, whatever... ) before you try to invoke it programmatically.

2. Workflow Template(wft) is not an executable, you can not *pass parameters* directly to it. What you can do is create/set your own Tag(s), see
TeamSite® Workflow Developer’s Guide for details. In your schema you can add custom parameters to test.xml:
<param name="my_parameter_0"><value>whatever</value></param>

Other than the DOS EOL characters (^M's) I don't see anything likely to cause the error (though the ^M's might)

If you want to start with a job specification file instead of a wft - you can use iwjobc -i - if you have a job specification file that you want to do replacements in before you compile/invoke it with iwjobc - you can either use regex or some form of XML parser to do so.

You are not passing the workflow "*.wft" template to iwwft_compile.ipl script. you should invoke it using
iwwft_compile.ipl -i custom/custom.wft < c:\test.xml

if you can provide me the code then that will be a better option as i am very new to teamsite and interwoven

You are not passing the workflow "*.wft" template to iwwft_compile.ipl script. you should invoke it using
iwwft_compile.ipl -i custom/custom.wft < c:\test.xml

That's not bullu's problem.

You should indicate wft via STDIN: <param name="iw_template_file">.
If you check an attachment you will see that it is exactly what bullu doing.

A long time ago, I wrote a simple perl script called iwjobcpp that took a list of key=value pairs on the command line along with the a job specification file, and performed the substitutions into a temporary file and then ran iwjobc on that temporary file - it's no that difficult to do -- but with the emergence of iwwft_compile.ipl it doesn't seem all that necessary anymore (IMO)Hope that helps.

I recommend use of iwwft_compile.ipl since you probably already have a WFT or know how to build one (yes?) and it's a supported part of the product so its covered under support.

I might have an old copy of iwjobcpp.ipl lying around - but it should be trivial to recreate it. However I see no reason to do so since I haven't needed it for years.
