Upgrade TS from 5.5.2 to 6.5 SP2 on w2k3

hello,
i am about to upgrade TS from 5.5.2 to TS 6.5, and i never done it on my own. i think i gathered enough information to go for it. but ihave final question before i start:
i am concerned about the order i should do things, i am going to do fresh installation of ts 6.5 sp2 on new box and just migrate the content store and some configurations and customs from the old box. and i am wondering if it matters if i migrate the content store first? or do i have to finish all ts configuration before i migrate the contentstore?

my plan is like this:
i have iw-store_copy saved on the box.
i will install TS 6.5 sp2
configure iw.cfg
iw-migrate the content store
then finish the configurations

Technically I don't believe the order matters much. You won't be able to verify things like workflows and templates and such until you bring over the changes to things like templating.cfg and available_templates.cfg, etc.

Plan on it taking a fair amount of time as you cannot always just bring over the old customized configuration files - you need to make sure that any changes in syntax between the versions are dealt with properly (in the case of templating.cfg and available_templates.cfg I believe you'll be okay - but there's a bunch of stuff in iw.cfg in 5.5.2 that does NOT get put into iw.cfg in 6.x...)

In continuation to what Goti has mentioned , also make sure that any customization made in 5.5.2 is also taken into consideration.

Mainly if you have made change to datacapture.js or visual-formatter xml file etc.

w.r.t. customized cgi scripts ( if you have any ) - you'd need to use a wrapper script for these to function.

before you copy the iw-store, take editions of all the branches ( I guess you'd have done this ) else complete data won't be transferred to the new box ( I had migrated 5.5.2 sp4 - solaris 8 to 6.5 sp2 - solaris 9 on a new box, faced this situation ).

I am not sure what you meant by a 'migrate' - if it was just copying over the old store or running 'iwmigrate'.

Although not necessary, it is best to run "iwmigrate" on the old store.

The new migrated store(after iwmigrate) will be more efficient.

In CGIs that you use, you *may* need to change the invocation (in the DCT) from:

Just a quick note. Make sure to install w2k3 sp1 before installing teamsite 6.5 sp2.

i installed 6.5 sp2 with content store

\iw-store and i did some configurations to iw.cfg and few other config files. it seemd it was working fine. and i have a backin store from 5.5.2 that was named iw-store_33.
to migrate i shutdown teamsite i renamed my old store from _33 to iw-store and teamsite start normal with Y:\ drive... but in the login page it doesnt show the domain dropdown box. so i assumed that s normal since the store is old version. and i typed this command to migrate the old store to the new verison:

the iw-store is 12gb... but the migration finished in 5 mins. i checked the new store and it was 78kb so i m sure the migration didnt work. and i checked the migration log it showed submit.cfg error... well i havent finished all the configurations and i was gonna do that later.. i thought it didnt matter if i migrate or if i finish the migration first?
i added the users to roles/files.ui buti havent created the users in the local machine... any suggestions to the best proper steps to migrate from 5.5.2 to 6.5 sp2? or solutions to my failing migration or errors?

actually my issue was that ididnt create some local admin users in the new machine. and i didnt create group users... the migration is running fine now for 16 hours... but i missed the \default part Smiley Sad

Personally, I'd do it over with the correct arguments - but that's me.
