Nothing logging to iwevents

jajtiii

Is there a reason why nothing would be logging to iwevents.log (a configuration setting or something)?

The following is in our iw.cfg :

[locations]
iwlogs=/space/TS_650_LOGS
iweventlog=/space/TS_650_LOGS/iwevents.log
iwtracelog=/space/TS_650_LOGS/iwtrace.log
iwserverlog=/space/TS_650_LOGS/iwserver.log
iwprocdlog=/space/TS_650_LOGS/iwprocessd.log
iwprocdoutputlog=/space/TS_650_LOGS/iwprocoutput.log

Nothing has logged to this file for a long time.

thanks,

jones

Nothing has logged to this file for a long time.

Are the other log files being written to?
Does this log file have the same permissions as the others in the directory?
Is the file empty?

jajtiii

Yes, iwserver, iwprocoutput and iwtrace are all being written to.

Perms on all 4 files are set to 755, owned by root.

The file is a little over two gigs.

The file is a little over two gigs.

Are any of the other log files as large or larger than this?

jajtiii

Sorry to not completely update.

When I checked on the file size, per the previous question, and noticed that it was so large, I cleared it out. It is now at 0 kb (and TS is still not logging to it).

But, iwprocoutput.log was a tad larger (by about a quarter of a gig.)

Of note (maybe inconsequential), there is an 'iwevents' directory that has what appear as binaries of some sort being written to it. The directory contains :

-r--r--r-- 1 root other 104857935 Apr 25 06:03 TeamsiteEvents.525
-r--r--r-- 1 root other 104857718 Apr 25 19:55 TeamsiteEvents.526

Try running the command line utility for file locations to see if perhaps the events log is set to write elsewhere.

iwgetlocation -a

iwgetlocation -c iwlogs

iwgetlocation -c iweventlog

jajtiii

Thanks for your assistance. Here is what I am getting :

iwgetlocation -a
iweventlog=/space/TS_650_LOGS/iwevents.log
iwtracelog=/space/TS_650_LOGS/iwtrace.log
iwserverlog=/space/TS_650_LOGS/iwserver.log
iwprocdlog=/space/TS_650_LOGS/iwprocessd.log
iwprocdoutputlog=/space/TS_650_LOGS/iwprocoutput.log

iwgetlocation -c iwlogs
/space/TS_650_LOGS

iwgetlocation -c iweventlog
/space/TS_650_LOGS/iwevents.log

Unfortunately, it should be logging to the location specified above, but nothing.

The only thing that I can think of is to try deleting the file and see if TS recreates it.

To find out definitively where iwserver is logging events, do this:

$ `ps -ef |grep iwserver`

On my system, it returns:

root 451 444 0 Apr 26 ? 0:33 iwserver.sol -e /var/adm/iwevents.log /data/iw-store

Iwstart sources the log location from /etc/defaultiwelog (via `iwgetelog`).

Hope this helps,
mike

Could you paste

iw-home/eventsubsystem/conf/log4j.xml to your post. May be some issue with logging level or maybe absence of the above file.

Also, check iw.cfg for the location you have provided for the iwevents log.

Not sure how your system is setup but try restarting OD/DD and Event subsystem followed by some triggering:
(a) Create branch/subbranch (b) Create DCR

Also Check iwtrace for any "Error: Event Subsystem is down" Errors & make sure EventSubS is properly setup ?

If nothing works Last resort ----> #init 6 (maybeontheweekend) Smiley Happy
