Use of SitePublisher 3.0 without LiveSite Runtime

Greetings!

I was wondering whether one can make use of the prime features of SitePublisher 3.0 (LiveSite Development System 3.0) like login, user personnas and statistics without the LiveSite production Runtime system being available.

What I am asking is a very simple and strightforward question: Can I make use of LiveSite features mentioned above with any other Delivery system apart from LiveSite production runtime?

This is very valid question because, customers, because of their own licensing restrictions may want to opt for a different runtime server. Would liveSite live up to meet their expectations?

The short answer is no, because it would be too much work. However, the LiveSite runtime is nothing more then a J2EE solution: war + tomcat + database.

So can you use the marque features of LiveSite with another J2EE application server? Yes. I've heard this a few times now, but I don't know how difficult it would be to implement.

Can you create your own runtime solution by writing your own code to consume the database tables etc, or perhaps implement a .NET runtime. I suppose, but why bother? (Incidentally if you do write a .NET runtime before Interwoven gets to it you could probably sell it to a few people.)

The value of the LiveSite runtime is as an integrated solution with SitePublisher and Targeting. If you are not willing to buy into the entire implementation then I would avoid the whole thing. There is some value to using SitePublisher as a replacement for FormsPublisher to generate static content; basically using the features that have been present in SitePublisher (was LiveSite) since the beginning. But the moment you decide you want login, targeting (user personas), and statistics you should be deploying the entire solution.
