callout field to checklist

I have a field in my DCT where I need to allow users to select more than one option for that field. I believe this needs to be done using a callout field on the template which will open a list where users can select multiple options using checkboxes. Then when they submit the information, it should populate the template. Does anyone have an example of how this can be done? Thank you.

Hi There,

You question is not quite clear. If I understood it correctly, your requirement is to have multiple check boxes for an item and the users are allowed to select either single or multiple check box.

You dont need to have a call out for this as this can accomplished in having multiple options for a check box item.

Sorry, I'm probably not as clear as I should be because I'm new to this. The reason I thought it should be a callout is because the checklist will contain about 250 items and I want to keep the user interface as friendly as possible.

Do you have an example of how what you suggested would be done? Thanks!

May be you want a Multiple select list box, which would get the job done, and you are right you can use callout for these, there are so many posts on this, please search for the same.

While a multi-select list will provide for this - the UI doesn't really work well for 250 items.

A callout to a CGI program that can present the list with some sort of index feature (either alphabetic or numeric - depending on what kind of items people will be selecting from) - and then collecting all the selections and returning them into the field associated with the callout (probably semi-colon separated or something like that) - would probably be a better UI.

If you do not have a requirement where in a user can deselect already selected checkboxes from the callout, and all you require is values selected, then what Adam (Ghoti) has suggested is a better approach.

If otherwise explain your complete requirement.

I would like to add on Sailesh, even if you wantto deselect the selected items, the user can do so by again doing a callout and checking the options which are required only.
