html tables and dcr's

Is there a good way to handle html tables in dct's? TeamSite templating does not handle tables wel at all. In the dcr's, after so many rows and columns and replicants, the page gets to be very confusing and long. Has anyone worked with tables in dcr's or know of a good way to handle this?

Try out the external editor within the DCT's. It is a CGI inline formatting tool that loads within the textarea. If you are using the Browse UI (white form you fill out) then the table options are hidden I guess, but if you can, switch over and install the Java UI. If you use the Java UI and also have the VisualFormat installed it gives a table option and it works great. Write me back if you need more info or the code to install the external editor.

Watch out for the Java UI. . . Interwoven is heading away from it in their future releases.

From what I understand, Interwoven had some licensing problems in getting the Browser-based UI to support WYSWYG functionality, so they gave birth to the Java UI. But those licensing problems have been cleared up and they are going to discontinue the Java UI in future releases because they realize it pretty much sucks.

I have visualformat turned off for all of my textareas. I turned them off because of the tag issue. I've since found out how to remove those tags, but that won't work because we use tags throughout our content in the textarea. Any way to handle tables without visualformat turned on?

As far as I know, there isn't a way to use tables without visual format. I was also running into the issue but use a little perl snippet to strip all and and replace them with a or 2. It works great. But as far as the tables is concerned, I don't know what to say if visualformat is turned off. That isn't to say there isn't something you could use. A girl I work with wrote a quick cgi-callout that pops up a window and you fill in boxes of info and click build table, and it generates the table with the info you just inputted. Not the most user-friendly thing but works, but then we found visualformat.

The cgi-callout and the build table code your coworker wrote sounds like a solution we were discussing yesterday. Would she be willing to share that code?

Below is the code for the datacapture.cfg file:

Then you can copy and paste this attached .ipl into the correct folder on your TeamSite server and make the path in the above code the same. Hope that helps.
