Hi,
TS 6.1.0 SP 2

My workflow has gone to failure task after unenable to send email at the task of sending mail and its showing this error in the log file Connection refused at /appl/iwov/iw-home/iw-perl/vendor/lib/Mail/Mailer.pm at Line ****.

What could be the possible reason for this to happen ?

May be your mail server will be down. Or check at the code Mailer.pm what it does at that line.

Mails server is working fine as we are able to receive to receive other mails.
And there has been no change in the code, this problem arised suddenly.

Any clues or related issues from anybody here is appreciated.

Are you able to send email from that particular server? Or are you referring to email in general from other computers?

If you are using a Wintel server box you can either send an email from outlook express or from the command prompt by telnet on the Teamsite server. http://www.cyberciti.biz/tips/test-mail-server-for-an-open-relay.html If you are denied then you know it's not Teamsite or your server setup. Maybe your network admin removed your server from the list of servers able to send email to that smtp server. Also, are you running a local smtp relay on your server that connects to another smtp server?

I am able to send and receive mail through that server, even the failure task is sending a mail through that server.

I am using a workflow for this purpose and I am not aware of Wintel server involved here. I am able to send mail to myself from telnet session through an .ipl file and outlook express as well is working fine.
Well network admin may be an issue, will have to confirm.

Now, if I run again the workflow all the mailer tasks are working fine

How do deal with this unexpected issue ?

Possibly add a timeout transition in the workflow and have it retry the previous emailing task.

Does your mail admin have a setting that prevents multiple emails with similar subjects (spam filter)? Maybe you're sending too many of the same messages and the mail server cuts you off for a while. Or maybe your server is connecting too often for your mail server and it refuses it.Just a wild guess.

Anytime I have recieved connection refused it was either because of the mail server, or because the sender address I was placing in the from wasn't a proper email address so the server refused the connection.

Are there other details in the log besides....
Connection refused at /appl/iwov/iw-home/iw-perl/vendor/lib/Mail/Mailer.pm at Line ****.

It depends on whose code you are using for performing the email notification and how you've written your workflow.

iwsend_mail.ipl provides for error handling such that it can be made to perform a different callback - but that requires that you write your workflow to expect two callbacks (success, failure) and then do whatever it is you want to do.

An alternative is to write your own (or modify a copy of an OOTB script) to make it check for an error and loop until it succeeds or until some maximum number of tries (to be determined by you) have been exceeded - and then you still have the issue of whether to treat it the same as success or handle it explicitly as an error.

The problem with hanging on failure is an indication that the call to the mailer was not performed within an eval statement - I'm pretty sure this was fixed in iwsend_mail.ipl - not sure about iw_solution_email.ipl.

Your approach seems to be much safer, I'll have to change my workflow accordingly, as of now the mailer is an external task with no failure task as its successor.
We are using a customised .ipl script for sending mail and calling modules which send mails.Usually, we do not get such an error, but it would be worth to catch this type of error.
