deleting edition on TS

Hello,
we have about 2600 edition maintaind in teamsite 5.5.2, and we dont need to maintain all those and maybe that will improve Teamsite performance. i am about to delete them but i am only concerned if i have to pay attention to anything else? like is there anything else i need to delete with the edition?

any suggestions of the quickest/safest way to delete them?

Make sure you do not delete INITIAL (empty) edition. It comes handy in many cases and it is not easy to recreate

From personal experience, when you delete those no. of editions you will see them deleted instantly from the UI. But TS actually does internal processing to do the clean up and it will take many no. of days for this to happen. That for us certainly resulted in performance issues. Just a note of caution. There is no gaurantee that deleting all thos editions will improve performance given that you are on 5.5.2. You should pro'ly look at other ways of improving performance.

i had to delete 7000 jobs from teamsite that were dated to 2004... and that improved the performance in visible way. so i checked the editions and i see that we have about 2500 edition from 2004. so i was thinking, deleting them might improve the performance? if it wotn improve the performance in little significant way, then i wotn bother deleting them. i also i am upgrade ts to 6.5 on seperate machine, and i am migrating the store from 5.5.2 to 6.5 and i was thinking about ways to make the backing store as small as possible so the migration wont take too long...

Given that you are upgrading to 6.5 (and also newer boxes??) you should see some performance gains. Also, there are ways like writing a script to do your migration and only selectively migrate editions. I am not sure if iwmigrate will let you do selective migration.

yes i am doing it on fresh box... i have a script that checks for workflows and thier activition time and deletes any older than 3 days.. i was wondering if there is something like that for checking for edition publish time and deletes based on thier time?

When you do the iwmigrate - look at the usage - there's a '-s' flag that allows you to specify the edition to use for starting the migration (I believe you also need to use the '-d' flag).

If the editions are uniformly named such that you can use the same edition name as the starting edition for all branches - the migration process is pretty easy. Otherwise you need to figure out what edition you wish to start with for each branch and adjust the parameters for iwmigrate accordingly.

lol no we dont use search.. well they don't... i am in an env where there was one person who created everything and maintained it for years. then suddenly left without knowledge transfer... so i have to figure everything myself, there isnt a single person in this env who can answer this question "do you have any workflows?"... but i am getting there.. i am setting up TS 6.5 on new box. and i am getting them the knowledge back as i figure out thigns Smiley Very Happy
