Running 4.5 and 5.0 at the same time
tvaughan
Has anyone run OpenDeploy 4.5 and 5.0 on the same machine at the same time, deploying to different machines?
For destination machine OS reasons, we're exploring that possibility, and I'd love to hear from anyone out there who might have tried it. . .
What's administration like?
How hairy is the configuration?
Any caveats/gotchyas
TIA,
Tom

I have run both OD 5.x and OD 4.5.x on the same server. The biggest problem is the multiple configurations. They install into different directories by default (this is a good thing) and also use different default ports.
As long as you are careful to keep the ports and install directories separate you should be ok. One problem to watch for is that if you are going to be running deployments that are similar from both versions to be careful that they do not step on each other (not deploying to or deploying from the same exact set of files). otherwise it should be pretty simple to do.

Tom, if the reason you want to run both 4.5 and 5.0 on the same sending machine is because you have target machines running different versions of OpenDeploy, you should consider upgrading your sending machine to OD 5.5.1 because 5.5.1 Server can deploy content to 4.5, 5.0.x, and 5.5.x receivers. This functionality allows you to gradually upgrade your target machines over time. The latest release version is OD 5.5.1 SP1.

How about OD 4.5.2 and OD 5.5.1 co-existing on same target server? In this case, it's Solaris. Any special considerations in this case?

(a) the OpenDeploy 5.5.1 Receiver will only be able to receive connection from an OpenDeploy 5.5.1 Base Server
(b) the OpenDeploy 4.5.2 server and 5.5.1 Receiver will need to be listening on *different* ports
Essentially what you'd be doing is setting up two distinct OpenDeploy routes to a single machine.
