Constraints on the number of branches - a licensing perspective

From a licensing perspective, is there is a limitation in the number of branches that I can have on the TeamSite box. If yes, is the restriction only on the branches that exist directly within the main branch or is it applicable to subbranches also?

We want to know this because the generic solutions that our team builds must make sure that the customer does not get into licensing issues, using it.

From a licensing perspective, it depends on the license you purchased. IWOV is selling servers that allow no more than 10 branches, (from main or sub, it does not matter). One thing I do not like is that a common practice is to make extra levels of branching which are "placeholders" and contain no content. Those type of branches still count against the max 10.

Please contact Interwoven Support and/or your Interwoven Sales Representative for an authoritative response.

The license generator on the Support site has a prompt for branches, but as far as I know - thus far - the information provided in there is not currently used by the product.

Actually I think it will, as with the # of stores, all it does is log that you are out of compliance with your license.

Yes, you will get a warning in the logs, but your TeamSite should still be functional.

We recently did get to know from reliable sources that the default license which Interowvn gives its customers is only for 10 branches (Branches and sub branches included). If the target system has anything more that 10 branches there an extra element iof costing involved.

But is that only for new customers ? or does it include existing / upgrading customers too?

A valid question. I do not think this should apply for existing customers. But I am not sure about this. Just a sensible guess.

But as far as upgrade goes, this rule might apply. You may want to check with the IWOV guys.

It would be great if somebody from Interwoven can comment on this. That would clear a lot of confusion regarding the licensuing paradigm which i got to know changes very frequently... Smiley Sad
