WorkSite Web Link Lists

We use WorkSite Web a lot for external access to the system. One of the nice features is the Link List. However, an annoyance is that links to WorkSite documents in a Link List open an intermediary "Document Link" window with properties of the document and a Document Actions list. "View" is selected by default and you then have to click OK.

This is annoying for users, as it's an extra window popping up, and they have to click OK to proceed. We logged it as a bug/enhancement, but Interwoven says it's by design, because with a link list, there's no other way to allow the user to choose from the various actions. However, we set users up to View by default, and actually remove the actions list from their views. Our external users are nearly all read-only, so this screen is completely unfamiliar to them, and they can't do many of the actions anyway.

Is there any way to get around this extra window, and just direct the user to the document when they click the link?

I hooked it from the standard pages in Worksite8. I haven't tested this for external use as this is used for internal documents at present. All our external use is either controlled through a connector or through shared folder.

Security for WorkSite links in a link list cannot be determined until run-time when a user actually clicks on the link. That is why the current functionality is to send the user to GetDoc, as this intermediate step shows a user all of the actions he can take on a particular document link.

Since you have a unique configuration in that you remove the Actions command for users and you always create the user options with a default view action, I will provide a workaround for you. A few disclaimers, though: (1) The following is provided for the link list functionality only; other areas of the system will continue to use the GetDoc functionality. (2) The change is in a JavaScript file, so in the future after you upgrade you will have to put this customization into the new JavaScript file. (3) You did not state what version of WSW you are using. The code sample below assumes you are using WSW 8.2 and may be applicable to WSW 8.1, although I have not confirmed. (4) This code is provided as-is.

You can modify the way the href is composed for document links in the link list by modifying LinkList.js.

Make a backup copy of <wsw_install>/includes/LinkList.js.
Open <wsw_install>/includes/LinkList.js in a text editor.
Search the code for "tion linksPanel_browseCallback". This is the function that will create the href for link list nodes.
Find the following line:

fm['node-href'].value = url;
```

Above this line enter the following change.


 //getDoc is only used for documents, so this should not disrupt other links
 if ( url.indexOf('getDoc.asp' >= 0 ) )

NOTE: This will only apply to new link lists. The only way to provide this functionality to your existing link lists is to write a standalone utility that would search for link lists using iManage.dll and update the xml stored in each link list's Body property.

Just to confirm, we're running 8.1, but will very soon be moving to 8.2.
