unable to reset server

while trying to reset an opendeploy reciever, this is the error message shown

unable to connect to opendeploy daemon
Reason:failed to create socket
Reason sockErr : 10057, socket is not connected
check that opendeploy server on the host localhost is listening on port 3434

what does this error message imply?

It implies OpenDeploy is down or partially down.

You can try an iwreset -a (assuming it is on a TS server as well). If that does not help (minor chance that it will), then restart OD

Somewhere on the support site is a compatibility matrix.
In general though - the base server should be the same or newer than the receivers, not the other way around.
Note: I don't think this has anything to do with failing to be able to restart the OD server process.

OK, for clarification, this is a base server not on a TS server. I know that is supported but I have never set that up.

Can you use control panel -> services to start stop ? There should be OpenDeploy, OpenDeployAdmin, OpenDeploy SMTP (optional), and something like OpenAPI (the CSF communications module that was installed)

Try restarting everything (except SMTP).

SNMP is Simple Network Mail Protocol. Basic email, can be used by OD (if email is not already configured on the server - most likely if it was a receiver).

SNMP is Simple Network Monitoring Protocol.

You were, perhaps, thinking of SMTP - the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol.

It could be a hung port or another application using OD ports. Restart the box and see if OD comes up or to be sure telnet to the ports you have configed OD to use to check this. If OD is not running and telnet responds, then either windows could not release the port when stopping the service or something else is using it.
