Migrating assets with original timestamp

We need to migrate assets in to the MediaBin from an external system. The existing system is a database/filesystem driven system and we need to keep the original timestamps of these assets when it is migrated to MediaBIn. I see that, when a new asset is inserted in to the system, mediabin does not retain the original time stamp of the system. When the users search for the items or open the mediabin folder, these assets will show the latest insertion time. I believe, Insertion Time is a read only metadata. Is there a way to retain the timestamp, other than creating a new metadata field? Even, if I create a new metadata field for retaining the original datetime, I may still have to change the ASP code of mediabin webclient to show this field instead of Insertion Time. Any pointers to this is highly appreciated.

There is no way to alter this field via the API as it is designated read-only by the server. However, if you contact CSO they should be able to help develop a script to update the appropriate field directly in the database if it is required. Believe me, however, this is not to be attempted lightly hence I would not recommend rolling ones own solution.
