Search server backup

Hi,

We got two backup systems (teamsite server + search server) which restores the production data nightly.

backup-teamsite server receives the content store backup.
backup-search server receives the index collection backup.

What is the ideal way to sync the backup-search server as production-search server?

option 1: restore the index collection from prod system (will this work?)
option 2: after restore the content store in backup-teamsite server, reindex the backup-search server.

any other ideas are welcome.
