TS 671 - email_map.cfg and tsusers.xml

This is our environment:
Windows 2003 Enterprise
TS 6.7.1

I would like to see the potential solutions to this out-of-synch problem:

Once a TS user is added through TS Administration interface, the corresponding file, tsusers.xml file gets updated.
\iw-home\conf\roles\tsusers.xml

For email notification system to be working (emails to be sent out), different email file is used to get the TS user email addresses:
email_map.cfg (\iw-home\local\config\wft\solutions\email_map.cfg)

When TS user is not in the email_map.cfg file, the workflow engine assumes email address (usually wrong and/or error prone process).

As per current TS 6.7.1 implementation, the email_map.cfg file needs to be updated manually, after a new TS user is added to the system.

How is everybody else doing the update to email_map.cfg?

We recently upgraded to 6.7.1 as well, and are evaluating our options to get rid of this maintenance issue.

I'm leaning towards changing iwov_emailmap.pm to parse tsusers.xml for the email address instead of email_map.cfg...the only drawback I see is that tsusers.xml doesn't store the user's "Friendly Name"...for that you'd have to call the iwuseradm CLT...admittedly iwuseradm CLT could also be used to pull email, but I wonder if it's not slower performance, by parsing tsusers.xml itself anyways?

anyone else try this approach? or find a better way? or are people generally content to leave things be? ;-)

Hi there,

By chance, are you able to update the "User friendly name" with the "iwuseradm set-display-name" CLT?
We have a TS6.7.1 installation on a Solaris 9 and get the following error when trying to update the displayname via the CLT:

# iwuseradm set-display-name gharbkh1 gharbkh1
ERROR:00048: Operation not supported

The user is defined on the OS and in TeamSite.
# iwuseradm list-users -t | grep gharbkh1
gharbkh1 "Khalid" "" "gharbkh1@gharbkh1.com" ccpro_only FALSE

# iwuseradm list-users -o | grep gharbkh1
gharbkh1 "Khalid"

Minor correction - there are two "old" email_map.cfg files - both of which must be edited by hand, and each of which is used by different email scripts provided in the distribution. iwhome/local/config/wft/email_map.cfg (key:value based) iwhome/local/config/wft/solutions/email_map.cfg (XML based).

However - as to the initial question - I have no idea, but it certainly shouldn't be difficult to train the solutions code to read the tsusers.xml file as opposed to the solutions/email_map.cfg file - since both are in XML format, it should just be a shift in XPATH notation.

FYI, I have written a tech note on using the new tsusers.xml email address in the older solutions script. Heather told me that she willget it posted, with the required perl module change shortly.

That is not kept in the tsusers.xml file so no luck on that. Now if you are talking only email then the email will usually substitute the friendly name automagically.

seems like all the OOTB/solutions emails use the email_map.cfg to get the "Friendly Name", not sure if there's another "automagically" way you're referring to?

I would think the email server could complete the "From" field if all it got was an email address, but we do the "Friendly Name" lookup for including people's name in the body of the mail messages, so we need a better way to manage that than manually updating email_map.cfg, or relying on AD that can (does) have glitches...

maybe I need to be filing a Feature Request to have "Friendly Names" added to tsusers.xml? LOL...
