Receiver logs not rolling

slarty

Dear OD experts,
We have a particular server functioning as an OD "Receiver" only. The <logRules/> element in odrcvr.xml is defined as:

<logRules maxBytes="5Mb"
directory="/usr/iw/OpenDeployNG/log"
level="verbose"
/>

However, the Receiver logs are not being rolled at 5Mb.

A similar logRule is set on our OD "Sender" server in odbase.xml. This is overwritten by a <logRules maxBytes="32Mb"/> element set in each of our deployment configurations, but the log rolling does appear to work at 32Mb.

Being new to OpenDeploy (and this implmentation of it!), I was wondering if anyone could let me know if I am missing something from the Receiver side of things? As far as I am aware, having a element set in odrcvr.xml should mean that the Receiver logs are rolled?

Cheers & Thanks,
Craig Robinson

ps. I am going to change log level to "normal" as soon as I can.

However, the Receiver logs are not being rolled at 5Mb...

I recall that there were certain versions of OD server(5.6/6.0?) on Windows that failed to honor rollover threshold.
The fact that 32Mb threshold is working does not mean much on its own. This is a default that is used if the threshold
is not found anywhere.

Thanks.
We're running on a Solaris 8 SPARC (I should have included my config...oops).I wonder if the problems aren't restricted to Windows?

Never heard of that issue on Solaris. Perhaps support can shed some light on that

Just to close this issue off: I have been in contact with IW support, and they have advised me that the rolling of the Receiver logs is completely dependent upon the sender configuration. So when the sender logs roll, then then receiver logs roll. A closer look at our receiver logs indicate that they have been rolling all along. What tricked me was that, in verbose mode, the receiver logs are actually 10 times bigger than the sender logs, so I didn't think they were rolling. I am changing the log level to normal, and reducing the default logsize.
