I have seen it mentioned in several threads that it is used to disable the DCT buttons generate, preview etc in 5.5.2

That is done through iw-home/local/config/templating.cfg, don't know much about 5.5.2

Are you using 5.5.2?
Or are you using some other version of TeamSite?
If you're using 5.5.2 you really should be looking to upgrade ASAP rather than putting a lot of effort into customizations that will be obsolete when you do the upgrade.

Please note that there used to be several versions of this JS circulating in DevNet.
Attached is the latest one I happen to have (not necessarily THE Latest)
