I am giving a part of code in my workflow.

In my WF I have external task it calls xyz.ipl. How can I get the value of $iw_approver2 in xyz.ipl.

There are a couple of ways to do this - one documented and the other undocumented. I'll give you the easy way - the documented one. Simply use the <variables> tag within your workflow. You can either use workflow variables or task variables, whichever suits your needs. I prefer workflow variables. Anyway, for your example, the syntax would be as follows:

<variables>
<variable key='approver2' value='__TAG__('iw_approver2');' />
</variables>

Then in your externaltask script, use the WFworkflow::GetVariable and WFworkflow: Smiley Frustrated

etVariable methods to read and set your variable.

I learned this method of passing variables from the TAG_info section into externaltask scripts when I worked at Interwoven as a contractor.

If you prefix tags in your TAG_info section with "iw_setwfarg_", they are then set as workflow variables and you can use methods like GetVariable and SetVariable on these variables in your externaltask scripts and your cgitask scripts. This is not documented anywhere in the Interwoven docs. For example, let's say I have a tag in my TAG_info section called "Contributor":

If I want to display the entered value for "Contributor" in one of my cgitask scripts, I would rename the "Contributor" tag to this:

Then I can manipulate the "Contributor" variable using WFworkflow.pm. It's as if I defined a workflow variable called "Contributor" only I am able to get the user-entered value from my TAG_info section to initialize the data in my variable. Pretty cool. When referring to a variable in WFworkflow.pm using the "iw_setwfarg_" prefix, strip off the "iw_setwfarg_" prefix. This is an internal string that the workflow engine uses to recognize a TAG_info tag as a workflow variable. I know this is kind of confusing, so ask questions if you need to.

Bad name after iw_approver2 at (eval 2) line 151.

You must have something wrong in your template then. Use iw_output_file to save your job spec, then run iwjobc against your job spec file - that way you'll get a more descriptive error message. Sounds like something may not be named correctly in your TAG_info section.
