OpenDeploy java DST instructions?

The Official DST KB Article reports:

"OpenDeploy 6.0.x. and 6.1.x require an operating system patch to correct the system time and a JRE patch for the JREs shipped with OpenDeploy."

So if we simply update the JRE w/ the appropriate Sun/IBM/etc. provided tool, that is all we need to do from a JRE standpoint? Am I understanding this correctly?
Has anyone updated their JRE already?

Hi,

We will be releasing detailed instructions for updating your JRE over the next week. OpenDeploy may also require the installation of a patch to be DST compliant. We released the Support KB about the impact on all Interwoven products to help customers plan for what they may need to do to be compliant. However, it is best to wait until we release detailed certified steps explaining the best method for upgrading your JRE and any other steps needed for OpenDeploy. The article will be updated as they are available, and I will also update this forum thread.

So can Solaris OS patches for the DST issue still be installed other than the OD pacth which maybe coming soon?

Hi,

We are still awaiting final procedures from engineering. I believe the last update I heard is that we won't need to apply a patch to OpenDeploy (I'll verify this once I know for sure), but we will provide detailed instructions for upgrading the JRE. In addition to that upgrade, you will also need to apply the OS level patch to ensure your OS is reporting the new correct time.

We've recently updated the TS instructions to include more detail, and I believe the OD procedures are coming soon. We are trying to get all the information to people early enough that they can update their servers in time for the new Daylight Savings.

Just to get a little clarification. It *appears* that this only needs to be changed on base servers and not on receivers. Can you confirm ?

Hi Andy,

Receivers do not have scheduler so they are not impacted as severely as the base servers. However, deployment logs will show the wrong timestamp if jre on receiver is not patched.

We are currently updating the OpenDeploy procedure to include additional information about the receivers.

OpenDeploy JRE info in od_dst_impact.pdf (KB: 57708) doesn't discuss about the opendeploy/CSF/AccessService/jre/bin/java.

Do I need to run the vendor provided DST tool on this area too?

I downloaded the tzupdater zip file from java.sun.com -- and on our test OD receiver box, I am trying to run it. The receiver is running on Win2003 SP1 server o/s and has OD 6.1.0 SP0 Patch 3 on it.

I am running the jar w/the -t (for test) first but have so far been unable to see all the stdout. There are too many lines of messages that say (e.g.) "/data/tzdata2007a.test:5207: time zone not found: Australia/Currie" or something like "/data/tzdata2007a.test.4967: test failed: Asia/Choibalsan". The messages that I really would care about, for the America zones, go by quickly and I am unable to scroll up to where any output for them is listed. I've expanded the buffer size in my cmd prompt window, tried sending it to a .txt file, tried the "|more" option but nothing works. I don't want to actually run it until I can verify the test.

Has anyone else successfully run it?

I have, but I didn't get scrolling lines of text in the command window. I would assume that all of the scrolling text you saw contained errors. Mine simply said:

my OD machine doesnt have teamsite on it, so i cant run it with d:\iw-home\tools\java\bin, wht should i run it under?
i try:

Good point! My receiver servers don't either, but I haven't tried updating them yet. So the posted instructions only refer to OD installed on TS servers. I hope there's an update if what you tried didn't work. Thanks!

i also tried the -f option which is "to force" option but it throws out the same error...

i followed the instructions which are:

Opendeploy:

Stop services

Follow the vendor’s instructions to install and test

Start services

any ideas or input?

Just a thought - Windows is somewhat notorious (IMO) for not explicitly setting time zone information - try doing something like:

C:\> set TZ="+0500"

(or something like that) before running the updater script. There might be some other variable besides TZ, and there might be some other value to use besides "+0500" (adjust for your timezone) - but it's worth a shot...

i tired that... i put in the cmd,windows didnt complain, but it still says no TZdata... did anybody else on devnet had this problem?

: doesnt Opendeploy read time from the server? so updating the OS will be enough ?
and i know that we need to update the JRE that teamsite is using, but why doesnt it read the time from the server (OS)?

we're experiencing the issue with multiple error messages like:

Alright I took a leap of faith and just tried tzupdater.jar with the -V and -u flags. I did not see any issues.

my problem was using tzupdater download from HP site. i used the one from Sun website and it worked just fine for me...

I also was able to successfully run mine. In order to see all the messages that were printing out when running the "-t -v" test, I had to alter some of the settings of properties of the command prompt window, including maximize the buffer size to 999 on the Options tab and also maximize the width and height of the screen buffer size to 9999 (Layout tab).

Even though I received the "Validation tests failed." message when running the updater with the test "-t", when I ran with "-u -v" I received these:

Validating the new time zone data... done.
Time zone data update is complete.

Then I reran the -t command and got:
Validating the time zone data
Validation complete
