Issues with VisualFormat

Hi there,

I was wondering if anyone has ever come across an issue whereby the VF client closes itself without saving, once 'save' is hit.

I am currently working with a user who is having this problem.

He is running :-
Windows XP SP1, Office 2003, IE version 6, McAfee Viruscan + Anti spyware Module 8.0.0, Java runtime Ver: 1.5.0_10.

The trouble is that when he uses Visualformat it works fine until he needs to “save” the amendments/additions to the web page (any one). It then hangs (standard “busy cursor”) and the after about 30 seconds closes itself and the CMS window without error messages or anything helpful to aid the troubleshooting process.

If he has multiple browser windows open, none of these are affected in any way at all.

OKAY, so you are using VF in external mode rather then inline. Do you know if the modifications are being written back to the DCR underneath prior to the complete closure of all IE windows?

Hi Patrick,

No modifications are being written back. Issues with VF seem to be a common occurence on laptops with image builds.

This users case is one of those.

Hi Breandan,

One quick solution is to uninstall the VF from the user PC/Laptop and open a DCR on edit mode to install the VF back.

I hope you are running TeamSite 6.0 a or above.

Uninstalled teamsite numerous times I'm afraid. Have been in contact with Ektron to see if there are any known issues, they told me to reinstall also.

Running TS 6.5 SP1.

Hi Breandan,

Uninstalling TeamSite will not uninstall VF as the VF gets installed at Client's machine (User's machine).

You will have uninstall VF directly from the Client's machine (User's machine).

I have done this in my earlier project with Ericsson. It worked for me. Worth a try.

Apologies for the typo - my mind ran away from me for a sec! - meant to say that I have reinstalled visualformat numerous times on the clients machine, I doubt my boss would be too happy with constant TS reinstallations Smiley Wink

To give some more background, I have installed the latest JVM, and reinstalled the VF client on the users machine.

User is running the IE 6.0 browser, which we have had no problems with before. What we have had problems with however are laptops with a windows image setup.

The latest image build seems to be causing the issue.

That's almost bound to be the issue - I believe you need to use an "older" version of the JVM - check the manuals, release notes, and Support KB articles for more information.

Isn't Ektron ActiveX based?

not saying this is related, but have you tried de-activating the anti-virus and anti-spyware products?

while the JVM version needs to be just right for other functionality (e.g. import files), I'm also of the opinion that it has no impact on the VF.
