TS Upgrade from 4.5.1 (Solaris)
thor
I'm putting together a document outlining the pros, cons, and conversion plans for upgrading our TS4.5.1 installation to either 5.0 or 5.5 (including DataDeploy). I thought it might be nice to have a forum thread that discusses good and bad experiences going through this process.
Any thoughts?

For me, the three biggest benefits of 5.x over 4.5 are:
1 - Templating has a better and more flexible interface, including the ability to do some cross field validation/manipulation in javascript which reduces the need to use callouts.
2 - OD has scheduled deployment built in, so you no longer need to develop a fairly complex workflow to accomplish this.
3 - The new Webdesk interface for authors is a bit more attractive, and easier for them to use.

With 5.52 there is the new multistore functionality, a new backing store architecture which vastly improves performance and scalability, there is a far greater degree of globalization and localization, tighter integration with ldap/Active Directory, SSO (with netegrity), ability to configure an email-based workflow(this is great!), SSL (also available wiith 5.0.x)

The workflow based email isn't that great. It could be a lot better. When our rep presented this to us, he claimed people who weren't TeamSite members could receive emails and approve/reject directly through the email link, without ever needing to enter TeamSite. However this is not the case. You still need to be a TeamSite member and it also pops up extra windows, which isn't very attractive. Seems like it should be easy enough to implement a link from an email that will activate a successor of a task without the person clicking the link to have to worry about TeamSite at all.

Does this mean that one can finally present dates in the main interface in other than US format? When I was working in Europe, that particular bit of American cultural imperialism gave me fits.
