xml editor / deployment script

Hello,
is there recommanded xml editor that i should use while editing our deployment script? i cant view most of my deployment scripts using the OD admin interface... i always make sure i save them under utf-8 format, but i still get this error when i try to open the script in OD admin interface.

Personally, I use Emacs (or vi/vim if Emacs isn't available) - but then I'm "old-school". Since you didn't indicate what you are using to created the deployment configuration files - there are any number of issues you could be running into - the most common is using an editor that inserts a BOM (I believe that's what it's called) near the top of the file. Perhaps if you attached (not in-line) one of your deployment configurations - we could take a look and see if we could figure out what's wrong.

yes, i remmeber somebody told me about the first character that gets insterted at the top called "BOM"..i use UltraEdit-32..sometimes i use notepad... i wil attach the deployment script but i dont think you would see anything special, it s hidden when you opend it with regular editor... but when i open it with this tool to compare file difference, the files effected look like this:
"notice the character at the begning 'ï»¿' " i dont know how it gets inserted in there... and i am sure thats where my problem comes from.

Define "regular editor"

It is almost definitely those odd characters at the beginning of the file which are causing the problem - I suggest you try to remove them and then retry viewing the deployment configuration file within the Admin GUI.

normal editor for me would be traditional text editor like notepad, other editors would be editors specificly designed for xml like XMLSpy or UtlraEdit ... i am not sure how i can remove those characters, i can only see them using the "file compare tool" since it compares the binary version of files and that only displays the differences it doesnt allow to edit...

Check your UltraEdit File-Save settings. Similar settings exist for XMLSpy. Note that configurational changes won't help for the files that already have BOM.

there was no option that indicated BOM... but i recreated the scripts and it worked. thanks for the tip Smiley Wink

You must be using pretty old version of UEdit, something like 10.10x. If you like the tool, upgrade. They make an impressive progress

the process to request to upgrade that software is sooo long and complicated Smiley Happy

i d rather use that time to solve Teamsite and OD issues.
but for the "old" version i am using right now... i found away to disable the BOM charcter by unchecking the "auto detect utf-8 format" under configuration -> load/save/conversions -> uncheck "auto detect UTF-8 files
