A confirmation: when attempting to disable the search bar present at the bottom of a DCR whenever a user attempts to view or edit, does the above block contain the correct syntax to use within the application_custom.xml file?

You need to check the servletd logs and other GUI logs. Post anything of interest.

Are you doing this as root? or via sudo? or as yourself?
If the latter - I suggest trying one of the other two mechanisms to verify that the problem isn't simply a permissions issue.

Semi off-topic, but I noticed in ts.671.rn.pdf p.11-12

"Data Record Search is disabled by default, so that the text field and Search button do not display."

and in uicg.670.cg.pdf p.60

"The default behavior in ContentCenter is for data record search to be enabled. To disable this feature so that users cannot search data records, edit application_custom.xml ..."

On my installation, the DCR search was indeed enabled by default.

On-topic, I believe as other posters that the failure has nothing to do with your application_custom.xml file...

Since you aren't explicitly saying so: did you run
