I need to copy the contents of one folder to another ovewriting files as one of the tasks of my workflow. All done within the same branch.

IF it is to be done within same branch, but another workarea... use iwupdate (to copy) and iwsubmit (to submit) within your perl script as external task.

Within your external task, you can very well execute commands like copy, mkdir etc.

Just give it a try on yourself.

Besides probably being relatively easy to write a script to do this entirely - have you given any thought to OpenDeploy?
