TS 6.7.1 Linux segmentation fault

We were in the process of using the multi-store approach to move over our TS 6.1 Solaris store into our TS 6.7.1 Linux server.

After attempting to run iwstoreadm -a on the new store, I got an I/O error. I realized that I needed to do a chown -R iwts:iwts on the old store.

After doing that, I tried iwstoreadm -a again and started to get this in my iwtrace.log file:

The 6.1 store is 14 GB, and the process wasn't doing anything (I thought) and I started to see all the above errors, so I did a ctrl-c on the iwstoreadm -a command, which resulted in a segmentation fault and the entire box being unstable. ls, df, etc. started running at 100% cpu.

Any ideas why I got these? Anyone else seen this?

Bill, I am just wondering - did IWOV tell you that Solaris store was compatible with Linux? Or maybe you did run some conversion scripts?

Yeah, on another test, we copied this store over to the new server prior to the install and during the install it was correctly converted over.

KB article 57073 has some extra information about changing this existing store with chown -R iwts followed by a chmod -R +x. I didn't add the execute bit, so I will try that and re-run this.

good, I was asking because this is what will have to face in a few months time, once IWOV releases SP1, so 64-bit Linux will be available.....
So, it looks like at least intermittently, the conversion works Smiley Happy

We were told to run things through iwmigrate and not rely on it being converted during install. I am not sure where you are coming from but we were on 6.1 SP2. I guess there are some more optimizations that have been done post 6.5 especially for things like search. So, while not required, it was highly recommended that we run iwmigrate, thus leading us down the current multi-store path.

as I deeply dislike iwmigrate tool... Because it would not (previously) get the workareas copied properly.

Can it migrate workareas as well now? What is your experience?
(maybe I am doing too much offtopic questions, probably will move to mail, should I need to ask any more questions)

Well the chmod -R +x did the trick. I am now able to see the entire store as it exists on the old 6.1 system.

We are going to run through some iwmigrate tests to see if it is any faster than the last time we did this (4.5 to 5.5 migration). It never even finished migrating some of the branches with heavy EAs. Hopefully Interwoven has made some improvements since then.

To the best of my knowledge, it still doesn't migrate open workflows or workareas.

It's a manual process that can be scripted - in fact, IWOV used to (and perhaps still does) provide an iwcpwa script for copying workareas from one store to another - although I ended up writing my own script to do this when I did an upgrade to 6.7.1 at the end of last year - it wasn't very difficult (combinations of iwlist, iwmkwa, iwlistmod, iwextattr, and tar)

Workflows are a different beast - I think IWOV provided a utility for that too - but I think the effort involved in doing so (and assuming that everything would "just work") is questionable and you're better off taking note of all active workflows and re-creating them (or not) on the new system - but that's just my opinion....

yes, I did some scripting also, but that was ages ago - when we moved pre 5.5.2 store to 5.5.2

I simply hoped that given the terrible PR that IWOV had during that time (at least from my client, that is the largest in Australia), they would improve the process....

As a side note - to all those planning to use iwmigrate for multiple passes (e.g.: an initial pass, followed by testing, followed by a final pass):

For steps 1 and 3 - consider using a secondary store - as long as it is temporary, you're generally okay license-wise (or so I've been told, various times). This is especially useful if you have active development going on in some branches in the target store while other branches are still being migrated.
