FormsPublisher Hierarchy

What is the purpose of having a data category and a data type in the directory structure for FormsPublisher?
From my limited knowledge there is nothing that all the data types in a data category share (ie ex no configuration file/setting say that applies to a data category and not a particular data type in in the category), and that is why the purpose of a two level categorization is unclear to me.

why some people sort their digital music as "My Music/< artist>/< album>/< songtitle>" and other as "My Music/< artist> - < album>/< songtitle>"? (just to add a different perspective)

who knows... it's just nice to have a bit of organizing capabilities, in a two level structure, especially if you have many types. But I guess it's not always that straightforward to use, if you envision a 1-level organisation.

Btw, you can e.g. apply submit filters in submit.cfg to everything in a category. Or set permissions on the category folder, that block out certain users from the entire category.

that's how it started, and historically it stayed that way. I guess it would be hard now to introduce a deeper hierarchy, when architecture begs for it. But we can live with two
