another callserver issue

i am using callserver to populate the drop down menus from the database. the callserver is working well and i am able to get the data and populate the drop down menus well.

here is the issue: after the editor creates a new dcr and saves it, the next time he/she opens it for editing only the values shows up and after the page is fully loaded the drop down menus get populated with a fresh drop down menu and the old values/label disappear.

now i added the code below which am passing a paramter called defaultOptionSelected through my fetchdata function that will do the callserver for me and testing it with the selected item , if an item has been selected then take the value of that item and replace it with its label. however when i run this code the the last item in my drop down menu shows up????

any clues where is the problem that i have in this code

Why not skip callserver call if values are already populated. And if you want the values to be repopulated, do a call server on any other event in case values already there (e.g onchange event of your dropdown ..)

i need the callserver to call an ipl which does the database connection and execute the query for me in order to get the data from the database and populate them in the drop down menu. the issue i am facing here is that


my $isDefaultSelected = ( ! $defaultOptionSelected && $test ) || $value eq $defaultOptionSelected ? "true" : "false";

keeps making both the defaultSelected and selected propoerties true in every case!!. it should be false, false for every option except the selected one should be false, true ???

any body knows what the problem with the code or the way i am doing it???

I'm suspicious of the highlighted part - you may need to add some debugging to make sure this logic is correct (which I don't think it is):

Thanks for your reply Adam, i am also guessing the logic there is the issue. i did some modifcation and here is what i have so far:

1 -when i open an exiting dcr the selected item gets populated just fine. so it works for a saved dcr

2- when i open a new form the last item of the drop down menu gets populated. i i believe because as i mentioned again the results from the posted code is always (true, true )

As I don't have a way to really test this out - I can only guess.
Looking back at the code you posted - I see an error which should cause you significant problems:

        foreach my $value($values){

Should probably be

        foreach my $value(@{$values}){

Next, you're taking advantage of precedence of '||' over '?:', which is okay, but it would generally be better to have another set of parens there just to make it clearer - that, plus I think you definitely need to add some debugging print statements so you can track the logic as it's going through:

...

my $i = 0;
# open debugging file - or use Log::Log4perl is already present
print DEBUG "defaultOptionSelected: $defaultOptionSelected\n";

callserver populating dropdown. yah this approach works fine.
My concern if you save a dcr. You will see the value not the label.
Definitely you can do on load to rewrite the options by calling the callserver.
Is there a way not calling the callserver?

2 choices, make the label and value the same or callserver on load. No other way.

Certainly use an inline if you can, but an inline is only useful if you can set the options without any information from the DCR.

I suggest spending the time to do this correctly and in a generic manner so that you can utilize this on other templates. It is not trivial, but is the best int he long run.
