Help for installing new TS 65 SP2 or using exiting image

Hi,

Here is our situation. We are trying to install SP2 on TS 6.5 SP1 on Win2003(DEV server). Later we applied Win2003 SP1. But it didn't work well, again we tried to uninstall Win2003Sp1, but system crashed. Can you please suggest best idea to run the DEV server? I may have two choices, not sure whether they are correct or not.
1. Take image of Production(TS 65 SP1 with Win2003) and apply on DEV. Change few settings and try to install TS 65 SP2 and Win2k3 Sp1. - I don't know this will work or not.
2. Fresh installation -
Win2k3 -> TS 6.5 base ->(not sure about TS 6.5sp1) -> TS 6.5 sp2 -> win2k3 sp1.

Please suggest the best way and any issues we may occur during the installation process. I appreciate your quick help.

I'd recommend option 2 - fresh installation. You do not need to apply SP1 before SP2 - each successive SP contains all the fixes from the previous SP.

Note - you need to generate 1 license for TS for the initial installation, and a 2nd license for the second, SP2, installation. If you still have the license key data in your iw.cfg - copy it somewhere for the first part. But (unless you've already done this, in which case make a copy) for the SP2 installation, you will need to go back to the Support site and use the *correct* license generator to generate the license *file* that SP2 (and beyond) require.

I believe the answer to '1' is that it isn't (officially) supported - mostly because if you're dealing within Windows, you have to deal with all the SID stuff - though if you're using a good product like 'ghost' (or whatever it's called these days - haven't looked at that stuff for over 5 years now) - I believe they provide the functionality for fixing SIDs - but I have no idea how that will work with an existing backing store.

If you've got the time, it may be worth trying '1' first - if it doesn't work - then wipe the box and try '2'.

With respect to '2' (again, my memory is a bit foggy here as I haven't had to deal with a Windows installation for at least 2 years) - you might run into problems with the base installation if you apply the Windows SP before applying the TS SP - but again - if you have the time, you can try it, if it doesn't work you just start over.

I don't recall the details for the iw_workarea problem - however, SP2 has been out and used for quite some time now - if there were problems like this they've probably been patched - so check the Support site for patches that go on top of TS65SP2 and apply those too.

i did fresh installation of TS 6.5 SP2 on wi2k3 sp1 and i had no problems. the only thing that i remmeber and probably you know about it, is the "anywhere installer issue" it doesnt auto launch because of a setting you need to change on w2k3 sp1.
this is the process i followd:

W2k3 SP1 > TS 6.5> TS 6.5 SP2 > then got the TS.lic

note: i didnt need license for ts 6.5 i just installed sp2 on top of ts 6.5 and generate license file for ts 6.5 sp2.

Thanks for your reply. Did you install TS6.5 and TS6.5 sp2 directly on Win2k3 sp1? Everybody including support is advicing to install TS6.5 and TS6.5 sp2 before installing sp1. Interesting...
