What if you change your DCT?

Hey folks -

Does anyone know if existing DCRs can be imported back into your DCT if you change your DCT (add/remove fields?)

It depends.
If you are running v 4.x then you will run into trouble with removing / adding fields.
If you are running v 5.x then if you remove a field from a DCT, it will be ignored and removed from the dcr. If you add a field its value is empty, but will be added to the file.

I've done this quite a bit lately without any problems on v 5.0.1 and 5.0.2.

To add to "bowker's" reply, if you insert a field in TS5.0.1 other than at the end of the DCT, your DCR's will not "break" like they did in TS4.5, but the XML values may become "misplaced" in the raw code. In other words, the tags and values are still there, but you can't see them in the Templating Client. After adding the new tags to the DCT you may need to open the existing DCRs in an XML or text editor (i.e. TextPad) and massage the data before the DCR is truly usable.
