External Task not starting

Hey folks -

I am trying to invoke an external task with a pull path to iwperl and a fullpath to the script. It is the first task in the workflow, and immediate=t and start=t. For some reason it's not even starting, I have tried the most basic Perl script writing to a log file and not is even not working

Hi,

Is your log file for the pl/ipl file created when called from a workflow ?
What exactly do you mean here by fullpath ?

Can you please provide the code snippet for reference ?

I presume the workflow is hanging on the external, so get the task number of a workflow that is stuck and run the following command:-

iwgetwfobj

[/html]

You will then get the complete xml for the task and we are only interested in the command line element. You should see something similar to the xml below in the output.

Now the next step is to cut and paste your command and add the extra parameters that TeamSite automatically adds. So the command should read:-

/apps/iw-home/iw-perl/bin/iwperl /apps/local/iwov/workflow/scripts/XSLT/applyXSLT.ipl workflow test

[/html]

It is paramount that the execute the script as the owner of the external task, in case there is a permission issue, etc

immediate="t" is not an attribute for externaltask, it's only an attribute for cgitask - and will only work in this situation if the cgitask is owned by the person who instantiated the workflow.

Have you verified that the perl code compiles cleanly by running:

C:\> path-to/iwperl -w -c path-to-script.ipl

If the perl code doesn't compile cleanly - it won't run, and therefore no amount of debug logging added to the script will help.
