teamsite licens e and Dual Core processor

Hello,
i noticed something strange in our teamsite dev box, i know that the server has 2 CPUs, and i got license for it from interwoven for 2 CPUs, but i keep seeing warning message in the log, warning me that i have 4 CPUs and my license is for 2 CPUs... that is dev box and i am not worry about it, we will fix it sometime..

but we just ordered a new server with this specification 2CPU (4core)X16GB)X(2X146GB) ( 2 CPUs , i am wondering if the teamsite license treats a dual core processors as 2 processors? which means that we will have to get 4 cpu license, any opinions?

but i am checking if somebody on here is administrating or using a teamsite server that is running on dual core CPUs? and how big the license is...

I was able to dig and found a bit of information. It is not uncommon for TS to think 1 hyperthreaded CPU is really 2 CPUs.

What I read said you should generate for 4 CPUs.

HOWEVER, that does not affect the licensing of the product. Since you generate for 4 CPUs and only bought a 2 CPU license, IW *may* think you are out of compliance. That would be bad.

I suspect you should talk to your local sales critter and find out if that is the case. Is Sunil is on he can provide more details.

IMHO (which IW could not care less about) you are legal, esp on the dev server. In production you should be as well. But that is for the lawyers to decide.

Hi,

When you generate the key, in your instance, you should select that you have 2 cores and then select the check box for hyperthreading. This let's us know that you physically have 2 cores, but it's acting like 4 cpu. Selecting 4 core/cpu may cause other error messages due to the licensing, because the software is expecting you to have 2 cores.

The error message in your log won't cause issues with TeamSite, but is there as a warning about the difference between what you generated, and what TeamSite believes you have in terms of CPU.

The same thing happens on Sun Coolthreads systems:
1 CPU - 8 cores - 4 threads/core = ~32 hardware threads

i filed a support case and the net result was fudge your numbers with the "hyperthreading" option until you match your system. A bit lame in my opinion. I think I had to enter 16 cores with hyperthreading.

The best setup would probably be:
1 - Enter the number of CPU's on your system
2 - Enter the number of cores/CPU on your system
3 - Enter the number of threads/core on your system

These numbers are only going to increase in the next few years...
