Hello,

I'm new with teamsite, I trying to generate a 3 levels menu. My datacapture is fine but I'm havaing troubles with templating. The problem is that level 2 and level 3 items are not always there so, in my html, i get empty

. I want to add a "If there is item write the html" but it does'nt work...The problem is that {iw_value name='level1A.niv2'/} return an empty string?! I'm not sure of understanding how iw_value work... also return nothing.I joined my filesThanks a lot for the help! Once started, I should be fine

That's incorrect. There are no issues here. Both flavors will work in TeamSite, just try it if you want.
I used canonical XML syntax simply to conform to VinnyG original code.

What is the problem you are trying to solve? Originally you said that "I want to add a *If there is item write the html* but it does'nt work...". That's what we've tried to help with

So, is your problem:
a) Validation of the fact that an optional Item is empty does not work OR
b) An Item that you think should not be empty is OR
c) An Item that you think should be empty isn't OR
d) none of the above?

Also, I am not certain that this is a legal DCT. You have replicants within an item. You can use this structure instead:

That may not have anything to so with the issue at hand. You are using the TS 4.X DTD for templating, which I have not used for several years, so my memory is vague.

Your 'niv2' is a replicant, I *beleive* it does not have a string value. ( I do it all in Perl for years, Andy may know better ).
Whatever the case, try <iw_if expr="scalar(iwpt_dcr_list('level1A.niv2'))">

Thx for the help guys! I changed the structure and I now understand why the replicant return nothing, I had to specify wich value I needed.

Now I want to add a value 0-1-2-3 at each iteration of my listitem

Also, is it possible to have a link that will be relative to the root of the web app. I know how to do it in c#.Net(~/the_link) but I don't know if it's possible in Team_site?

Would it be simple if I render my menu all in Perl ?

You will write some perl to read the get the DCR values into Perl variables and build the page into a variable and dump it out.

To do it in Perl and even to properly understand the sample provided by Andy you will have to learn few
templating concepts and related API Functions. Type the following command from TS Server command
prompt and start reading:
