Editing non dcr files (word,excel...etc)

Hello,
In our TeamSite branch we have also non dcr files like word files and excel files. We uploaded these files from DCRs by calling the CGI program.

In the Teamsite when I click "Edit" against these word files or excel files i am getting the following message.
"Downloading /htdocs/generalfiles/abc.doc for editing."

What I want is these files have to open with the corresponding application.
Like doc files with MS-Word and xls files with MS-Excel and pdf with Acrobat Reader.

Our TeamSite server is running in the Sun box.

Any help is greately appreciated.

i cant check it now, but i think it suppose to pop up a window asking if you to associate it with an application. what version of ts and environment are you on?

Try disabling smart context editing for those file types in the iw.cfg file and restart the various services.

Hello Ghoti,
Disabled the smart context editing. It works fine when i tried to preview(File Actions->Preview) the file. The old problem still exists when i hit the edit button.

If u want to open the file with a specific program then go to My Local Files,click on "Settings",go to "File Types" tab,add the extension for desired program.

The authors are not in Content Center Professional to do it. They are in Content Center Standard and they don't have this View menu at all to perform (View->MyLocalFiles...).

Also this settings (file extensions associated with application) in Content Center Professional is not reflected in Content Center Standard.

At the least, is it possible to bring that View menu in Content Center Standard ?

Unless otherwise configured, ContentCenter uses the same editing application settings you have configured on your desktop. For example, if your desktop launches IE when you edit an html file, ContentCenter does also.

And if you want to have a different application for any file extension the go to the URL http://server_name/iw-cc/localfilemgrsetup and Choose the options the same way one does in CCPro.
