submit DCR workflow notification email

Hi there,

I found there are 3 ways to submit a DCR & HTML files to a workflow for submit:
#1) editor assign a job to author (configurable_author_assignment.wft)
#2) author launch a DCT to write content (author_submit_dcr.wft)
#3) author submit a DCR (configurable_default_submit.wft)

if I am going to enable the email notification in the workflow, I am only able to enable for #1 and #3. whereby #2 is not a configurable workflow.

due to the flexibility of TeamSite allow the users to perform task in different way, we can't restrict the user to stick to certain method to submit DCR...

can anyone guide me to enable the same notification email in #2? (use iw_solution_email.ipl)

Personally, I think you'd be better off using the code for #2 as a loose guide - and write your own new WFT that does what you want it to do - including sending email notification. Disable the OOTB WFT and enable yours in its place.

Alternatively, you can copy the OOTB WFT to your own directory and modify the code as it is - then disable the OOTB WT and enable your copy in its place.

Adding email notification is basically adding an externaltask such that the predecessor task(s) transition to it, and it transitions to the successor task(s) and you define the appropriate command and task-level variables associated with the task so that it can do what you want it to.

I had modified from a copy of OOTB template to include the send email task, and I had configured the available_templating.cfg to uses the custom copy of the workflow template.

the changes I had made to the workflow is shown in the following diagram, the blue colour box is the additional task I added in.

What do you mean by stuck? Are you getting any specific error?

if your workflow is started with a valid job id, then you can check further by using iwgetwfobj, this will help you in getting the values in all the variables.

I mean it hold at the email_reviewer task, when I login to the professional content center as an editor, I found the job at email_reviewer task, which it suppose to be an external task to send email... if I configure it correctly.

I am not sure the configuration I've done is correct or not.

Still we would neen to look into your wft file and configuration done at available_templates...

Get the exact command being run and try it from the command line.

If these are the out of the box email, then I have seen failures due to email configs being incorrect. Either in the iw.cfg or the email map file.

Do you have any WF emails working at all ?

Also, depending on your TS release, the log file
[iw-home]\local\logs\iwjoberrors.log
may have been telling you the exact error of the external task.

Yes, the email template is a OOTB features -- email_solution.ipl

Yes, the email is working just fine in all other configurable workflows. what I need to do is just change the parameter email_author / email_editor yes in order to send an notifition email to the author or editor.

But this one I need to customize the submit workflow.

One Reason i see for an external task for not to complete is when it fails to execute completely, i mean it could be stuck in the middle of execution of the script.

there could be many reasons for this, but one reason that i could see is that the tpl's used in external task might have some problem, please make sure that the tpls' used for email are placed in the correct location and they are syntactically correct.
