DD deployment Hangs at 'Acquire Latch'

We are seeing DD deployments hang with the last message in the logs reading 'Acquire Latch'. I can only assume that this means the app is having issues connecting with the DB. If we cancel the deployment, it continues to hang indefinitely in a cancel pending state. I have read on this forum that the only real fix is to restart the OD services. This does not work for us as when I shut down OD when there are hung DD deployments, it hangs at 'OpenDeploy server is stopping, please wait ...' Normally, I don't have root priveleges on the server as I am just the application admin, but when this happens I have to cancel the stop process and cheat and log in as root and kill off the processes by hand. There should be a simpler way of doing this then to have to restart all OD services. Anyone else run into this and find a better solution? Thanks.

You might double check your DB or firewall is not dropping DB connections that are idle.

you might try adding cache-db-connection="no" to database.xml under the ELEMENT database.
