Interwoven Dev License

Hi,
i have a question about the types of license we generate from interwoven site...
there is always an option for production, stand by, or development type of license.

there are certain products that we want to try in our servers to check if it is the right solution, or to try during planning for an upgrade, or sometime just to see if it is something we can use... but we dont want this to affect the cost of licensing b/w my company and interwoven... right now we have boxes with teamsite and OD that are using a dev license and i was told that by the support center that i can generate as many as we need of those, because sometimes we generate one that doesnt work, or with wrong information... from your experience, is it true that you can generate dev license for any product without affecting the cost of the license agreement b/w your company and interwoven?

to be more specific, i want to try the Data deployment, but we never used it before and we dont have license for it...

This is a question to ask your local sales critter.

However I will add my $0.02

As I understand, when you purchase a dev server, you purchase a dev license of every product you have purchased (TS, OD, MT, etc, however MediaBin is not included)

So if you have purchased OD (not EasyDeploy) then you have DD with it. So you can load that up on the dev server.

As to the number of licenses you generate. You are correct in that IW will watch the total number you generate. If they see a much larger than normal number (or you generate for 10 stores when you only purchased 1) IW can and will ask for an explanation, possibly an audit. So don't go there.

IW can issue a temporary license for evaluation purposes. But you need to ask the sale critter for that.

actually my main concern, was about DD, yes we do have OD (not eadydeploy)... but when i generated license for OD, it listed DD as an add-on module, so i thought we will have to pay more money for that add-on?

I've heard different things about this. I know that they wanted to charge a certain customer of mine a nice penny for this module but then I've heard from others that the option is "there" when you buy OpenDeploy. This module is normally found as a download on the support site, if you have access to it, and involves a minimal change to odbase.xml if you were you install it. As Andy eloquently put it, your local sales critter can advise you on that.

Yea, the licensing for this has changed and you will get your best information from the sales critter. That BTW, is a term of endearment and they *love* being referred to as such. Don't hesitate to use it, often. Smiley Very Happy

to answer a couple questions floating around, yes DD is an additional add-on module that has to be purchased. If you are working with a customer who purchased OpenDeploy a few years ago, their purchase may have included DD - you can ask your sales critter for this information to verify. Smiley Tongue

Additionally, Andy is right, when you generate keys, if you are generating them for different servers, it will start adding up as separate keys and counting them against your purchases. If you are "testing" or evaluating the software, your sales critter will understand, but the best approach is to contact the critter or support directly to ask for a short evaluation license. This will save you the trouble of having issues with your production license.
