Open Deploy and Microsoft Visual SoueceSafe(VSS) Premission issue

I encounter a strange issue when I summit files via Open Deploy and not have the file checked out in vss. If I summit a file without checking out the file in vss the file doesn’t update. The log file shows permissions error but all the interwoven permissions are correct. When I check out the file in vss the files get deployed as expected. I was wondering if anyone else has encountered this issue.

This seems to be working as per the VSS rules. You have a file in VSS and you want to update this file without checking it out then it will always show permission error.

Open Deploy is basically updating the file onto your target location. Your target location is already in VSS, so obviously it will not allow you to update as it is not checked out.

It has nothing to do with your Interwoven permissions.

If I under VSS functionality correctly, unless you checkout file stays in readonly mode and it has readonly bit on. Since that file is readonly and you try to change the files permission when deploying that must be causing the permissions issue error.

What do you mean by deploy to vss?

Do you want to check in files which are already checked out and updated??

Why you would deploy to VSS is beyond me, since TS is a much better version control system than VSS is. That being said, yes you can. Deploy to the area that VSS uses to check in/out code. Then write a deploy and run script to kick off VSS to check in.

You can inquire Support or ask around for VSS OD Payload adapter. Personally I never heard of one, CVS
payload adapter does exist however. If somebody has done it for VSS support may help you to get in touch
with the implementor(s)

Nipper you are absolutely correct, TS is better than VSS however VSS is whats being use currently on my end.

A VSS payload adapter ships with OD 6.0.2 or 6.1 (can't remember exactly which version of service pack) and works the same way as the cvs adapter does.
