Maximum number of branches

Q for Heather or Sunil.

If I purchase a server with 10 branches, is this just 10 of any kind or 10 that have any data in them ?

As a best practice, I might set up branching like

/default/main/COMPANY_NAME/
with subbranches of
INTERNET_SITES
EXTRANET_SITES
INTRANET_SITES

none of which contain any data (nor would there be a workarea defined), then I would add the various projects underneath. So I assume I am losing 4 of my 10 branches by doing this.

If so I would like to suggest an enhancement that only branches with workareas (or anything in Staging) count against the limit.

Last I heard - the prompt for branches in the license generator wasn't being used for anything.

Unless the charge per branch is nominal (and even then) - this kind of thing could really create a nasty backlash...

Yes but companies are sticklers for being in compliance with the license agreement. I do remember seeing a reference to maximum of 10 branches on the PO/contract. If that includes filler branches, the I need to rethink my branching strategy.

Hi Andy,

By default, your branches will be counted by our licensing system, regardless of the content in the branches. However, if you let your Account Executive know your strategy and planning behind the branching system, they may be able to create an exception for you and have a key manually created and sent to you. While errors in the logs about too many branches won't cause TeamSite to crash, it's always best to have everything set up per your license agreement.
