Profiling documents WSW

Hi,

Can anyone suggest a method of pre-populating document profile fields in Worksite Web? In our Filesite integration this has been done within the Imanextlib.ImportCmd_OnInitDialog event - is there something similar in the web interface?

There are several approaches you can take. Since you didn't provide specific details about what you want to accomplish, I've provide all options. All options work in 8.1 and above. For 8.0, only the first two options will work.

Approach	Implementation Details	Caveats
Hard-code values in document profiles. You can assign different profiles to each role, so users in RoleX use certain values while users in RoleY user other values.	See on-line help in WSW. http://<server>/worksite/help/<lang>/help/Document_Profiles.htm http://<server>/worksite/help/<lang>/help/WebRoles_Creating_HowTo.htm	Maintained on a per-role basis. If you have a large number of roles, this can become a maintenance headache.
Set default document profiles on template folders. Metadata will then be applied to all workspaces created from the template.	See on-line help in WSW. http://<server>/worksite/help/<lang>/help/Folder-based_Document_Profiling.htm	Maintained on a per-folder basis. Only applies to new workspaces created from the template after the changes have been applied.
Programmatically assign values when the profile is loading in the WSW dialog.	You can inject your customizations into the profile rendering by hooking into the function “customizeProfile()” in <wsw_install>/includes/profile.js. See KB article 54971, WorkSite Web Customization Guide, on IWOV's Support Site. This PDF document contains a chapter devoted to leveraging client-side code to customize the profile.	Global code change potentially affecting all users. If you want to make a change per-user, you’ll need additional customizations. Upgrades to WSW will require you to redeploy your customizations.

Many thanks dabird for your reply. I'm using 8.2 so using the last option is most feasible for me.

On a similar note, the Import Document url (checkin.aspx) displays the file selection screen before the actual profile is displayed. Is there any means of suppressing this screen and supplying a param of the file to upload, so just the profile screen is shown?

Unfortunately using the WSW UI there is no way to bypass the upload screen and just show the profile screen. The reason being that the upload screen actually uploads the file from the client machine to the web server. On the upload screen the add button is hooked into either an ActiveX control, applet or standard HTML file upload control, depending on your configuration in Global Options.

Another option is to use our web services. We have a web service that allows you to upload a file and the profile in one transaction. This, however, would be appropriate if you were writing your own application and displayed your own profile screen.
