Hi everyone,
When we recently held a webcast about upgrading to TeamSite 6.7.1 there were too many questions to answer during the time we had available. We've posted all the remaining questions below with their answers:
1. Does Interwoven plan to support other Linux distributions in the future?
Yes, in TS 6.7.1 SP1 which is targeted end of July, we plan to support Linux RedHat on 64-bit Opteron in addition to x86 Intel.
2. What about Microsoft platforms and upgrading from 6.5SP2 to 6.7.1?
It is a supported upgrade path. Just follow the upgrade installation to run iwusermigrate, iwaccessmigrate, and migrate_non_root scripts. Iwusermigrate and migrate_non_root will be automatically run by installer and iwaccessmigrate has to be run manually, but will be prompted by installer before the installation exits.
3. What is the migration model for transforming existing workflow models into the new Workflow Modeler format?
There is no support for automatically transforming existing workflow models into the new Workflow Modeler format. We continue to support both format. We encourage using the new Workflow modeler for future workflow development.
4. Will you be supporting Solaris x86 running in a VMware Virtual Host?
No.
5. I've been told that there are hardware restrictions with respect to the type of CPU when running TS on Linux. Namely 64 bit CPU's aren't supported.
Not officially certified although it should work. It will be supported in TS 6.7.1 SP1.
6. When you say old DTDs for DCT and WF? will 6.7.1 is compatible with DTDs 4.5 and below?
Yes. Although we introduced new DTDs, we support backward compatibility.
7. For those upgrading from 6.1 SP2 to 6.7.1, what is the best practices recommendation for installing the Search functionality. At one time I've heard some people say the Search should be installed on a separate server.
Search functionality was introduced in 6.5. If you are going to run search, iwmigrate is a must. We recommend Search server installed on a separate server for performance purpose. This really depends on how much content need to indexed, how frequently for indexing.
8. What's the end of the life - approximate - for 6.5?
When we ship TS 7.0, we will announce the EOL date and final year of support for 6.5, this eol date will likely be in early 2009.
9. Can you please repeat the steps to migrate from 6.1 windows 2000 to 6.7.1 on windows 2003?
If you are moving to a different server, you can take the store from windows 2000 and move it to windows 2003 by following the example described in the KB article (#57073). The example is written for moving from Linux/AIX to Linux, but it is close enough for Windows. You have to run iwidmap to replace the original SID values for your users and groups before running iwusermigrate.
If you are doing this upgrade on the same server, it will be simpler. Upgrade to Window 2003 first and then upgrade to 6.7.1.
10. What is the preferred platform for 6.7.1? Windows or Solaris or do both perform the same.
Both should perform roughly the same. It really depends on your specific requirement for the platform.
11. Is there a benefit to upgrading now to 6.7.1 instead of waiting for 7.0?
There is a long list of new features available in 6.7.1/6.7 and SP1. We recommend upgrade to 6.7.1 if you want to leverage the new implementations and capabilities. We are still in process of planning for 7.0 and the final schedule has not been determined.
12. What kind of access non-root user should have in terms of running TS 6.7.1 on Solaris?
If you are asking about the non-root user “iwts”, you don’t need to worry about it since it is automatically created by installer. The baking store access is taken care of internally by TeamSite server.
13.Unix to windows migration is not supported but how can we do it?
There isn’t a perfect solution to that. If you don’t care about the version history, you can use OD to deploy the files in the content store to the new server but you have to specify the ACLs for files when they are deployed to the new platform.
13. Is Ektron being phased out? That is, do you expect ektron to be supported in the future?
We still support Ektron and plan to upgrade to a newer version of Ektron in TS 6.7.1 SP1
14. Will be any performance issue on TeamSite Server, using the Search as we have a huge content store?
We recommend install Search on a separate server if you have to index a huge amount of assets. Also, you should run iwmigrate.
15. Do you recommend upgrading from 6.5 SP1 to 6.5 SP3 to address bug fixes and performance issues or should we upgrade to 6.7.1?
It really depends on if you want to leverage the new functionality and bug fixes available in 6.7.1. From performance point of view, they are on the par.
16. Currently we are running on Teamsite 6.5 SP1 on Solaris 8. Now we are planning to install 6.7.1 on Linux. So this will be a fresh installation. So i want to know what are the steps we have to take care to migrate the content & user ids etc.
Follow the example in the KB article (#57073). The example should be close enough to Solaris. Check if the users and group match up. If not, you have to run iwidmap to change the id values before running iwusermigrate.
17. When we migrated from TS 552 to TS61, we did changes in our perl scripts on vpath, do we need to do such changes to perl scripts when we migrate from 6.1 to 6.7.1?
Generally speaking, no. Please let us know the specifics of your changes.
18. How about Soalris on a windows VM ware?
No.
19. On Solaris, doesn't 6.7.1 require Solaris 10?
6.7.1 support both Solaris 9 and 10.
20. We are currently on 6.1 Solaris going to 6.7.1 Linux. We don't currently use LDAP for the teamsite role, but are planning to do that. Should we populate the attribute with the older master, editor, author, etc before running the iwmigrate tools? (i assume it would convert the contents of the attribute to the new master/tsuser and ccpro/ccstd?)
You should upgrade to 6.7.1 first. Then populate the attributes to LDAP. You then run iwmigrate.
21. We are planning for a fresh install 6.7.1 on linux. And we have to run Teamsite as non-root user. so what are the steps to take care?
You don’t have to do any extra step. If you are going to activate a old content store, be sure to copy the store to the target system first before you run the new install.
22. Can I talk to you more about the iwmigrate and my situtation?
Sure. Please contact
