How to add a matte finish in Mediabin task

hi,

Is there a way to add a white matte when an image is extracted from Mediabin? In a custom task, what primitive can we use inorder to add this matte so that when I retrieve an asset with this retrievall task I get the converted image with the matte finish.

That would depend highly on what formats one is talking about. For Photoshop assets, that would generally be performed via the Flattener primitive. More complex operations can be undertaken via the "AGS Encoder" primitive which allows for custom scripts. Another possibility for files that have an alpha channel but are not necessarily PSD's is to use the PSDLayerReplacer with the layer to be replaced lying above the desired background and then flattening the result.

With some more details I can be a bit more explicit.

The assets I have are photoshop PSDs. I want to convert them to transparent GIFs with White Matte finish when I retrieve them from MB. In my custom task, I have a Flattener, Image Size (to resize the image), Color Converter and GIF Encoder primitives. Can I get a Matte Finish with a PSD Layer Replacer? Can you tell me how that can be done?

We are developing an application using MediaBin API
We need to change the metadata for a folder/container but we are not been able to locate the method in MediaBin API for doing this.
Please let us know how can we achieve this.

Interesting that you mention using the "AGS Encoder" primitive... I thought that using it was discouraged because AGS will no longer be included (nor, I guess, supported) in MediaBin 4.6.

To clarify, Adobe Graphics Server is no longer a mandatory part of MediaBin 4.6. All the current uses of the server have been ported forward to MB 4.6, however we have in many cases duplicated functionality elsewhere so one can function independently of AGS.

Some primitives, such as the AGS Encoder, will only be present if you have AGS installed. Others have been altered to work with or without AGS. Some native primitives such as GIF and PNG encoders have had their functionality increased in order to work around some of the most common uses for the AGS Encoder (e.g., it used to be the only way to output a transparent PNG).

This sort of layer manipulation really does require AGS at some point in its functionality (for example, the above use cases all involve the use of the flattener). in the "non-AGS" case there is an equivalent flattener, but it functions by exposing a precomputed composite layer already in a PSD file rather than by dynamically compositing layers.

The release notes and documentation go into more details, but essentially AGS is really only needed in tasks that involve some form of layer manipulation.

As an aside, the Watermark Generator primitive which is AGS-dependent has been augmented with another primitive that performs a similar function but only on insertion and is available in the non-AGS case (and which, in addition, watermarks all layers/slides/pages and not just the first).
