Can user without full control privilege perform script to update on property value?

A link is created so that it will set and update the property field. However, if a user without full control privilege, attempt to run the script, he cannot perform update().

For example,

doc.setPropertyValue("APP:Name","Document"); doc.update();//the script breaks here

Is the script bounded/related to the user's privilege?
