404 after reboot
marcussteiner
Hi all, we have a strange one here. After a reboot of one of our Teamsite boxes the gui does not come up anymore for the logon screen. We have a case open with Interwoven but usually you get a quicker response here.
this is what I get from access_log and all other logfiles are pretty much dead:
45.217.2.36 - - [28/Mar/2007:19:31:52 +0200] "GET /iw-cc/command/iw.ui HTTP/1.0" 404 725 0 prd_ts_sa
any ideas? our admin is on holidays and I'm not great with that sort of stuff
cheers
we are on solaris 5.8 and
# /iwenv/iw-home/bin/iwversion
iwserver: 6.1.0 Build 45436 Interwoven 20050201

run: ps -ef | grep iw-home and post the results.
also, try iwreset -a
Is your webserver up ?
GO to
http://your-server:81/
and see if you get any pages.

OK, so your TeamSite processes look like they are all up, who about the web server ?
marcussteiner
GO to
http://your-server:81/
and see if you get any pages. does not return much either but that is the same with the other servers as well. I've also tried port :8181 which (I think) where the webservers runs.
I'v also tried netstat -an | grep 8181 which returns:
*.32781 Idle
*.32781 *.* 0 0 24576 0 LISTEN
127.0.0.1.32817 127.0.0.1.5798 32768 0 32768 0 ESTABLISHED

from /etc/iw.cfg
[iwproxy]
iwproxy_host=localhost
customer_webserver_host=****.bc
iwproxy_port=1080

i assume the webserver is not started. But where can I start it on solaris?

That would be correct.
Any clue what webserver you use ? Likely apache, run this:
ps -ef | grep httpd
As to how to start, there will be a program call apactl you can run. However, if you search for it, you may find multiple ones (one installed with Solaris, maybe a newer one installed by your admin)
find / -name apactl -print
You will likely need some environment variables set to be able to start this.

nothing on ps -ef | grep httpd. but i checked /iwenv/log/iwui/servletd.log
and I get the following message when running iwrest -ui:
[ERROR] Http11Protocol - -Error initializing endpoint < address="" already="" in="" 8080="">
Catalina.start: LifecycleException: Protocol handler initialization failed: java.net.BindException: Address already in use:8080
hmmm.
when I run netstat -na | grep 8080 I get:
*.8080 *.* 0 0 24576 0 LISTEN
127.0.0.1.8080 127.0.0.1.44755 32768 0 31994 0 CLOSE_WAIT

OK, your web server is not running. You need to figure out how to start that. However it is often different for each Solaris install. I cannot help you there.
How many other TS boxes do you have ? can you try the same ps-ef | grep httpd command on another and see if you can determine what web server you are using as well as where it is installed ?
Also, in your iw.cfg, the customer_web_server is ****.bc I assume that is the same as the TS server. Is that a correct assumption ?
Migrateduser
What was the reason for the original reboot? Was something installed that setup another web application (ie Tomcat)?
marcussteiner
we have four teamsite environments runnign ps -ef | grep httpd returns:
ps -ef | grep httpd
apache 14380 14366 0 Mar 15 ? 1:07 /opt/apache/sbin/httpd -f /etc/opt/apache/ecmp_httpd.conf
apache 14374 14366 0 Mar 15 ? 1:08 /opt/apache/sbin/httpd -f ....
/etc/opt/apache/ecmp_httpd.conf
apache 14388 14366 0 Mar 15 ? 1:09 /opt/apache/sbin/httpd -f /etc/opt/apache/ecmp_httpd.conf
and more
the assumption with ****.bc is correct.
The solaris team did installed an Solaris patch on the servers. I think its the first server which they have tried out. I will check tomorrow what we can do about that. I will also check if they installed something new on the server.
thanks for your time.

You can try running this command:
/opt/apache/sbin/apactl start
or
/opt/apache/bin/apactl start
That *should* start apache, but there may be some underlying reason it did not start automagically.
marcussteiner
ok we have it finally running. the problem was really weired. apparently someone has changed the owner of almost all out teamsite files in the httpd and iw-webd directory. so nothing was owned by the normal user anmore. this is why we got permission denied for all requests comming in. We changed the user back and everything is working fine now.
Cheers
