version control for tsusers.xml/tsgroups.xml

Hi All,
We have recently upgraded from TS 6.1 to TS 671.
In TS 671 as there are no uid files.. needs to know from maintenance perspective how well we can mantain the tsusers.xml and tsgroups.xml file.

In TS 671 through Admin module the master will have the privilege to add users and ts groups and there is no manual intervention on the files tsgroups.xml and tsusers.xml. Suppose if he goes wrong while he creates some groups/users how well we can revert back to previous version of tsusers.xml and tsgroups.xml....

Version the files in TeamSite before/after you make the changes. They are, after all, just XML files - so they can always be edited manually or through custom programming interface.

IW doesnt recommend to edit these files manually.It is mentioned in admin doc as

Information about TeamSite users in non-LDAP configurations is stored in the iwhome\
conf\roles\tsusers.xml file. This file is maintained by adding users, deleting users,
or editing user information through the Manage Users link in the TeamSite Administration
tab. Do not modify the tsusers.xml file manually.
The iwuseradm CLT can also be used to maintain the information in the tsusers.xml file;
refer to the TeamSite Command-Line Tools Reference for information.

TeamSite uses the iw-home\conf\tsgroups.xml file to store information about TeamSite
groups. The tsgroups.xml file is created and maintained through the Manage Groups link
in the Administration tab or by the iwgroup CLT. While the file can be modified by
administrators, it is recommended that modifications to the file be made through the
Administration tab or the CLT. The TeamSite server reads this file into memory and allows
branches and workareas created with group for sharing options to use these groups.

I put files like this on and admin branch or config branch within TeamSite. Then a workflow deploys them to iw-home (and can run a iwreset, iwreset -a, or rebuild the GUI if needed).

The down side is that the GUI tools only work on the original files in iw-home and not on a version control branch. There is an enhancement request for that.

So I use a regular editor for small changes, if I have a great deal of work and want to use the GUI, I copy the file back to the admin branch after the fact.

a)In TS 671,whenever through administration module we create a tsgroup or a user there is no need for iwreset.

b)Also manual updation is not possible in tsgroups.xml as the nextid value is getting generated automatically.

Seems both tsusers.xml and iwcache.xml are having internal references. If that is the case along with tsusers.xml the iwcache.xml's version also needs to be maintained.

What do you all say??

I believe you can still edit tsgroups.xml as long as you know how many groups you have. Add your group, give it's ID as what you see in nextid and then increment the next id. I wish you don't that this route.
